Transitioning back into family and society is crucial for inmates who leave children behind. These children often find themselves without a parent, leading to the involvement of grandparents, aunts, or even siblings. Upon release, inmates typically reside in transitional or “halfway” houses. Parental inmates face a decision: assimilate into the new family dynamic, resume their parental role, or maintain a separate relationship with their children. Regardless of the chosen path, returning inmate parents may require professional assistance or support during this transition. Inmates have lost or missed out on various aspects of life while incarcerated, including skills, knowledge, and education. To regain these lost opportunities, inmates must actively participate in focused programs and attend specialized workshops.
